As first lady she was a role model for students with particular emphasis on work with female students. She will be remembered as a warm and friendly person who demonstrated concern for the welfare of students.

With the combined efforts of the Community Development Corporation of Rust College and the City of Holly Springs, the once run-down areas around the college are now being revitalized.

McNeal said she has seen everything, from the different kinds of students who have come and gone from the institution, to the evolution of the school itself, including the many accomplishments and additions in the campus' physical expansion and academic programs.

The longest serving employee at Rust, Hathorne retired from the college last year after 63 years of meritorious service to the school. With new players and a highly determined coach, the Lady Bearcats has "the potential to be great" says, Brittany "BJ" Baxter, a returning sophomore from Chicago, Ill.

McLemore, a former student leader and political activist in his student days at Rust, and whom Rust president David L. Beckley in his introduction called "the walking encyclopedia on civil rights issues in the South," also reflected on his experiences as a young adult at Rust.

Dr. Smith served Rust at a critical time in its history and the history of the State of Mississippi. For the College, it was the period in which the sponsoring church was deciding if the College should continue or be closed. Dr. Smith loved his alma mater, the 'Old Royal White and Blue'. He was generous in his giving to the College.

"Rust grew out of Asbury, or some might say that Asbury grew out of Rust," Beckley said, jokingly.

The president said he decided to switch from what he originally planned to present because of what he saw prior to the convocation.

Rust College regrets to announce the death of Theodore R. Collins, former business manager of Rust College in the '60s. Collins died on Monday, Nov. 24, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Lady Bearcats are a sight to see and very entertaining. The players and Reeves believe this team can make history. Owens said, "Strapping down and eliminating minor mistakes will take us far in the play-offs."

This is the first time in the college history an entire family will graduate at the same time.

After nearly 45 years, the great sport of tackle and touchdown may be coming back on campus.

"We are not even close to saying that every student should have a laptop when they come, or when they come we give them a laptop."

"Last year was a tough season for us, we suffered plenty of losses. The group of guys I had last year played hard every game but sometimes it just didn't pay off," said Troy Howell, coach of the Bearcat baseball team.

What if; the majority of our young men were in College instead of prison? What if; Historical Black Colleges, Universities and private schools never existed? What if; my people knew who they really were? What if; my people were not ashamed of their African Roots? What if; my people would learn and speak the language of our ancestors?
