The grass fire that seemed to be small at first escalated into a nightmare as high winds shoot flames from the burning brush onto her house and set it on fire.
According to Rodney Crane, assistant fire chief of HSFD, it took joint efforts of the Holly Springs Fire Department and the Red Banks Volunteer Fire Department to put out the fire. "There were no fatalities," said HSFD chief Kenny Holbrook.
The only damages that were done was an empty house burned to a crisp, Holbrook said . The HSFD stays busy year round, and the department gets on the average about 1200 calls.
"So far since January we have had 112 incident calls." He adds, "Not all calls to the station are fire related. 60 percent of the calls are medical and the other 40 percent pertain to fires."
There has been only one fatality since last year. That was because of a house that blew up due to a gas leak, said Holbrook.
