Rust College announces funeral services for former president, Dr. W.A. McMillan

Funeral services for the immediate past president of Rust College, Dr. William Asbury McMillan, are scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the McMillan Multi-Purpose Center on the campus of Rust College.

McMillan, died Saturday, March 14, from injuries sustained in a car accident at intersection of Highways 311 and 7 in Holly Springs. He was taken to the Alliance Medical Hospital where he was pronounced dead. McMillan was the 10th president of Rust, and served from 1967-1993. He was 89, born Feb. 29, 1920.

The family will accept flowers or donations to the McMillan Endowed Scholarship Fund at Rust College. Flowers may be sent to:

Dr. McMillan was president at the time I attended Rust College. My prayers are with his family.

I am amazed at how sad this makes me. He became President of Rust during my sisters enrollment and remained through my enrollment (1973 – 1977) and on into the 1990's. (Continued…)

I would often see President McMillian at Wal-Mart around and about In Holly Springs almost every week. We always had something to talk about. He will be truly missed. (Continued…)

I often talked with President McMillan at Wal-Mart and around town. Cheerful, happy and a smiley face was always his greeting. I was saddened when I heard the news; into the arms of the Loving God where he is safe, may his soul rest in peace. (Continued…)

Sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. McMillan. I enjoy sharing Sunday School with him while I was in Holly Springs.
