Every year many colleges and universities become victims of criminal activites. Head of security at Rust, Claude Gleeton, works his best to make sure the college is not one of them.

Among his goals is to make everyone comfortable talking to and relating with the security on campus. He said his office spends time in social areas to create a good officer/student relationship.

To make the campus feel safer, "We secure buildings that are not in use as well as check visitors and student IDs when they enter the campus."

To prepare for crises that may take place on campus, the security goes through a series of safety workshops to educate the campus community through written and verbal communications.

And to ensure campus safety, Gleeton said the college have installed video cameras in numerous places. He does not believe in placing guard booths at every entrance nor does he believe in fencing in the campus. "We are apart of the community," said Gleeton.
