If one were to poll students at Rust College on the reasons for attending Rust, I am sure one will receive an array of answers.

Some students may say to attain more knowledge, and others may say to be in position to become wealthy in the future. A handful of students will indicate that they are here just to get away from home.

Most of all, students are in college to chase the American dream. The term "American Dream" was first used in James Adams' book, The Epic of America, but it is now a commonly used phrase.

Many take the author's intention of this phrase, as the pursuit of materialistic things. Adams referred to the American dream as the social order in which individuals have the opportunity to excel in life, regardless of their birth situation.

If we are to accomplish the American dream, then we must have our own dreams, but, do not dream forever. There comes a time when we must wake up, and accept the challenge that is being presented.

It is encouraged that students pull up their pants and begin to walk with dignity and grace, for these qualities will help in the pursuit of this dream.
